This painting is from the artist Cassandra Barney. It's entitled, "Be Where Your Feet Are." It was a part of a presentation by Laurel Christensen, who was one of the speakers at "Time Out for Women". "Time Out for Women" is a women's conference for LDS ladies like myself.
Laurel entitled her talk something along the lines of, "We are all ladies in waiting." Some women wait for a husband, some women wait for a child (moi), some women might wait for financial security or better health or a job or....... (the list can go on and on.) The point was, we are all waiting for something.
So, she gave some suggestions for how to make the waiting time productive and how not to put life on hold just because you are waiting. Here are her points:
1. "Feel your feet." In other words, concentrate on where you are now, today. Don't spend so much time wondering or worrying about what might happen or not happen in the future. Feel where you are standing today. (Hence the painting above.)
2. "Live as if you have already received that blessing." How would I change the way I live my life now if I knew that the blessing I so desperately longed for was just around the corner, that I knew it was coming? Isn't that the better way to live anyway? To live as though I have already been blessed. Laurel also mentioned that God is perfect. He knows everything. And because he knows everything, there is a big red circle in His calendar indicating the day my wait will be over. He knows when it will end. That's exciting to me!
3. "God waits too." He wants to bless us. He wants to grant us the righteous desires of our heart. Laurel made the comment that "God doesn't seem like a time-waster." So, if He is not a time waster, He must have some purpose for me to wait. And if there is a purpose or big lesson I should be learning, am I trying to figure it out? There is also a scripture -- Doctrine and Covenants 111:11 that says in so many words, "God will give to you as fast as you can handle."
Amanda this is such a wonderful thought! Thank you so much for sharing. It really is something I needed to hear today. Thanks for you beautiful example of faith and optimism! We miss you!
